This is among the oldest living things on this planet. I found this bristlecone pine at the top of Mt. Washington in Great Basin National Park in Nevada. It lives in almost pure stone gravel at 11,600 feet elevation. I don't know the exact age of this particular tree, but similar trees a few hundred feet away were dated with tree rings to be 3,000 years old. It was alive when some of the pyramids were built and was already a thousand years old when Jesus and Caesar were born. Baring a fire or lightening strike, this tree will be alive long after the very last memories of you or I disappear from this planet. Why not try starting something that may take more than a century to accomplish?
